The Barbaric Bodhisattva (XIAOSHANCHONGDIEJINMINGMIE)

Author: WEN Tingyun [Tang Dynasty]

Small hills overlapping and gold glimmering, cloud-like hair seeming to drift over the snowing fragrant cheek. Lazily got up to draw the moth-like brows; it was late to wash and do make-up. Checking the flower from the double mirrors, in which the face and flowers shone upon each other. Newly embroidered Ruqun on, with pairs of golden partridges.

Green Curtain Covers (LIAOCHENXIANG)

Author: ZHOU Bangyan [North Song Dynasty]

Burnt the eaglewood, to erase summer’s moisty heat. Birds hailing the sunlight, at dawn chirping while peeking at the eave. Early sun dried the night’s rain on leaves; on the clear and round water, every water lily stood out in the morning wind.

So far is my hometown, then on which day would I ever set off? Near Wu my family lives, but so long have I been a traveller in Chang’an. Remember or not the fishing lad in May? With small paddles on a light boat, I dreamt into a lotus pond.

The Barbaric Bodhisattva : Written on the Zaokou Wall in Jiangxi

Author: XIN Qiji [South Song Dynasty]

Clear river flows below the Yugu Tower, inside dissolved how many refugees’ tears! Gazing afar to the northwest for Chang’an, such a pity so many mountains lie between.

Green mountains can’t block the way; water flows to the east after all. 'Night near the river I was worrying, when partridge sounds entered my ears from the deep mountain.

Turquoise Jade Bowl : The Lantern Festival

Author: XIN Qiji [South Song Dynasty]

'Night, wind from the east bloomed flowers on thousands of trees. Then blew them off, stars dropped like rain. Fine horses and carved carriages spread out with roads full of scent. Music flew, the moon shone; it was a night of fish and loongs dancing.

Moth ornaments, snow-willows, threads of gold; they left with faint fragrances, talking and laughing. Having looked for her hundreds of thousands of times, I suddenly turned round; she was just there, where the light was waning.
